Our story began with an idea at the Oceanic Society.
That idea was to help members learn about our marine environment by experiencing it firsthand on the water through sailing.
So in 1979, the Oceanic Society hired one of its members, Jane Piereth to run a program that involved having members build Mirror dinghies and learn how to sail. Jane, as a volunteer, had previously been in charge of the precursor group that used member’s boats
We have been teaching youth sailing for 40 years.
In 1984 Sailing Education Adventures (SEA) started youth sailing camps in association with the Sausalito Cruising Club.
We are an award winning program.
In 1985 Sailing Education Adventures (SEA) and the Sausalito Cruising Club won the prestigious Nimitz Trophy in recognition of the quality of our youth program. We then won it again in 1998, 2004, and 2021 with the Marin Yacht Club.
Garret Horder Memorial Trophy 2023
This year we were awarded the Garret Horder Memorial Trophy for excellence in youth training. It is awarded to the best program on the West Coast.
